Mery left a huge mark on everyone who met her. With her energy, joy, positivism and leadership, she constantly inspired young people to study hard, and to fight to get ahead, as she did herself. You can do it, she always said. She was the center and fundamental support of her family and very dear to all who were lucky enough to meet her.

With this fundraising we want to help her husband Tarek and her family in Peru to return to her beloved city of Huanuco. We appreciate your generous support. FLY HIGH, my dear Mery, we will miss you a lot, your smile will always be with us.

Mery passed away trying to avoid a deer on a road in Virginia at night on July 4th.

Who is doing this campaign:
Yoana Walschap is a friend of Mery and her family. She met her 12 years ago at the University of Oklahoma where she work, and where Mery did her master's degree in petroleum engineering. They became friends and have been connected all these time. This campaing has been approved by Mery's family as well as by Tarek Awadalla, Mery's husband. The funds collected here will cover all the expenses related to the funeral arrangements and repatriation of Mery to her beloved town of Huanuco in Peru.  If there is any money left, her friends in Norman, OK at OU are planning to create the Mery Diaz-Campos Scholarship Endowment at the University of Oklahoma, for Peruvian students in her memory.  Thanks!

WITHDRAWAL PLANS: Update July 11, 2017

I continue to be awed and humbled by how much Mery's friends generously donated for her final journey with her mother and sister to her beloved Huanuco. I will draw the money and be responsible for the payments. Today we have paid in full the funeral home expenses directly to their account in Lynchburg, Virginia. We will be able to purchase the plane tickets for Olga and Marlene's return with Mery from Washington to Huanuco; we will partially cover the hotel stay.  Whatever is left, will go to the Mery Diaz-Campos Scholarship Fund at the University of Oklahoma for a scholarship to Peruvian students.

On behalf of the family and Tarek Awadalla, THANK you all for your generous support. Together we are stronger and we wave good-bye with broken hearts, to our dear Merycita! Fly high dear friend and watch over all of us. You will be missed, but never forgotten. We'll take care of the Prospective Peruvian Student for the University of Oklahoma facebook group that you created and will continue to inspire your compatriotas the best we can, following all your example.
