drowning in debt from hospital fees

Donation protected

Update- its been 6 months since my grandma passed away and I didnt meet my goal..so im now up to my neck in debt from her hospital and funeral costs, ever growing late fees..im also sending money back to mexico every month trying to hang onto her home. I cant rent the house until I get the deed in my name and I dont even have the money to do that! My entire life is falling apart. I loved my grandma so much..she was my only family, but she left behind a rather large mess for me, no life Iinsurance, or even a will. I know she didnt mean for things to be left this way..im just running out of options and really hoping for some kind of miracle to get my life back to how it was before this was all dropped on me..

I lost all faith in any help..but Im hoping things will start to turn around for me. With everything Ive been through these last 6 months..I could really use more than just hoping every day, for a change..or a phone call from some life insurance company telling me my grandma did infact leave something behind to cover these expenses..something, anything. Please if your able and willing..im not looking for any money for myself, every penny will be applied to past due bills in Mexico. I can even send reciepts out to anyone willing to help me.

I told myself i would never do this..but I also have some of her canvas paintings I'm now willing to part with if need be. Please see my tribute page and contact me if youd like to purchase one of her paintings- proceeds will go towards her expenses. Please only inquire if you intend to love and take good care of the painting..

Laurel Lee Wallis- Painter, Astologer, Archiologist, SciFi, Horror, and anything Alfred Hitchcock Fan, Outerspace and Alien Lifeform Interest, and a strong love for ALL animals (mostly cats though) She was an extremely Independent person, could fix anything around the house, didnt want/need help from anyone. She'd take in any stray animal..spend her last dime on seeing her pets were happy and well taken care of before she'd even think about herself, but art- art was her true love in life. In my recent trip to Barra de Navidad Mexico..I learned how much she was loved by the small village and how many of her paintings are in the homes of the residents, and murals on the walls of so many resturants and hotels. The most talented painter I will ever meet in this lifetime and I have the honor of saying that painter was my Grandma.

Please visit this link to view a gallery of her work

A Mural of Barra painted by Laurel Wallis in a resturant inside the small village in Mexico.

Here's a photo from my recent visit to Barra, myself with the owner of this once beautiful resort- this is part of a mural my Grandmother did inside the resort which was devestated from a Hurricane 2 years ago. Only one wall of the four she painted is still standing..you can see her signature in the left corner. This was at one point a huge dance room and bar.

Laurel passed away in her sleep on July 25th, 2014 from Dengue Fever. She was 79 years old.. She left behind a son, Paul and a granddaughter- Crystal. Laurel moved to Mexico 15 years ago when she retired from working in Real Estate..herself and a group of her painter friends started a group in Barra called The Dirty Dozen. Together they filled the town with their beautiful artwork and touched the hearts of many people of the village. Laurel loved her life in Barra..even after all of her friends were gone and she was all alone. She stayed. Even after her arthritis and eye sight were so bad she could no longer paint. She stayed. Barra was her home, and I dont think she would have changed that for the world.

My name is Crystal..I'm the granddaughter. I'm 27 years old. On July 25th I was notified by the Embassy that my grandmother had passed away in the hospital early that morning and they needed a relative to come to the hospital and claim her. I was in a scramble to get my birth certificate, passport and plane ticket booked to go be with her and make the needed arrangments. I made it to Mexico 3 days later..spending most of my savings thus far. Knowing no spanish it was difficult but I was able to get my grandma moved to a funeral home..where I was able to see her before she was cremated (her wishes) I then spent the next two weeks at her home, cleaning and finding homes for her pets. I had to have a yard sale because I was running out of money from all the taxis, traslators and paperwork I needed to file. I was then hit with a 2400 funeral bill and a 900 hospital bill..and after finding out my grandma  had no money in her bank and no life insurance..I ended up having to leave my grandmas ashes behind at the funeral home when I flew home..and that was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I felt completely defeated..soon after there was a hurricane in Barra causing damage to the house, and I've been sending every penney I get back for repairs. I'm preparing to fly back down to Barra the first week of November to finish preparing the house to be rented..and I need to raise the money for the funeral bill by that time so I can get her released from the funeral home and have a proper memorial for her, she deserves that- then spread her ashes in the ocean as she wanted. I dont have any other family that can help me with any of this..and if I cant raise the money for the bills I'll be forced to auction off not only a lot of my personal things but her paintings..which is all I have left of her. I know you dont know me..but I hope you can understand my situation and maybe think of how it might feel if you were in my shoes..

Any little bit will help..

I appreciate any of you who even read this far! Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
