We each write and turn the pages of our own personal novel. Many pages are full of hopes, dreams, adventure and accomplishment. Some pages document our fears.
On January 19, 2018, Megan went to the Urgent Care as she found a lump in her armpit that was resulting in a great deal of pain. She was immediately admitted to the ER. The following days and weeks included further tests, biopsy, and meetings with her oncologist team. As the test results came back, one day after another, Megan and those closest to her learned the difficult news. The news felt like a crushing blow that sunk in and took up residence.
Megan has stage 3 breast cancer. This invasive attack on her was working at an aggressive rate within her body; therefore, her team of doctors developed an aggressive plan of attack.
Megan’s chemo port was surgically implanted on January 30th. Two days later, on Megan’s 23rd birthday, she started what will be 4 months of chemo. Surgery and radiation (if needed) will follow.
Those of you who love Megan already know she emanates the following qualities: intelligence, tenacity, strength, thoughtfulness, competitiveness, drive/hard-worker, kindness and caring. The last couple of weeks Megan has proven to be a fierce warrior.
I have watched Megan move forward through this chapter of her story with grace, strength, optimism, humor, and a healthy ability to advocate for herself. This is only one chapter of her novel. This event will not define her.
Megan has always been career focused. She started a new career 3 months ago. She intends to continue to work as much as she can; however, she does not qualify for leave time. Due to her aggressive treatment plan, Megan may have work days missed, without pay.

2019 Update: Megan’s breast cancer came back. Let’s surround her with support.
This year, Megan completed 14 rounds of IV chemo, then surgery. Following surgery, she went on oral chemo and was about to start radiation treatment when this aggressive cancer returned.
Megan has a large team of doctors who have developed an aggressive treatment plan to fight this aggressive cancer that came back more advanced this time. The goal is to keep the cancer localized so as not to spreading to other parts of her body. This week she will start aggressive chemo. Chemo will continue each week until they determine they will move on to surgery and radiation.
Megan has to take unpaid leave from work as this treatment is extremely difficult on her body. Last time she was hospitalized a couple times during her chemo treatment as the chemo is very hard on her body.
This year has been emotionally, physically and financially difficult on Megan. Please support her any way you can.
