Help Meagan Davis Kick Cancer!

On November 16th, I took my beautiful daughter in to have surgery for what we thought was a detached retina. During a further examination by the doctor, he discovered more than just a detached retina. While looking through the scope, the doctor told Meagan that she has a malignant melanoma tumor. Shocked at what she thought she heard, Meagan clarified by asking if she heard him right. The doctor immediately ordered additional tests and immediately identified the tumor as choroidal melanoma, a cancerous tumor in her eye.
This type of cancer/tumor is a very rare form that affects 6 out of 1 million people yearly. What complicates Meagan's case and treatment even more is the size of the tumor. Meagan's tumor measures 11X12mm, which shocked many of the doctors she visited. From the clinic in Plymouth to the UofM, and Mayo, doctors commented on both the size of the tumor as well as Meagan's age; stating that Meagan is the youngest patient they have ever seen with this condition and inviting their colleagues in to see the ultra-sound.
After many appointments and multiple opinions, Meagan has chosen to begin treatment at the Mayo Clinic. Her immediate options consisted of either removing her right eye altogether or to undergo radition (Gamma Knife Radiation). Even though Meagan will most likely lose 100% vision in her right eye, she has decided to move forward with radiation, saving as much of her vision for as long as she can. Either way, Meagan has a 50% chance that she will need to have her entire eye removed due to the effects of radiation or other complications within 5-years.
After her initial treatment, there is up to a 40% chance that the cancer will metastisize and spread to other parts of her body within 5-years. Meagan's fight against cancer will be a long and on-going battle but Meagan remains hopeful that she has a great medical team working for her.
Meagan has been very strong and positive through this process and has even tried to be a bit light-hearted by naming her tumor, Hank. She continues to be strong for her kids, Ashlyn (9) and Barrett (2) but needs our thoughts and prayers to help them get through this.
Further, if you are willing and able to help Meagan financially, she needs assistance with medical bills, time off of work, traveling, and hotel expenses while she undergoes treatments at Mayo.
