Cancer Treatment Support

Where it starts:

On June 24th I noticed an odd mass/sensation in my lower abdomen and decided to get it checked out by a medical professional. It took just one meeting with my PCP to understand that something was definitely not okay. I was quickly referred out for an ultrasound and some blood work. Labs came back normal but the ultrasound confirmed a mass and necessitated further evaluation. I was referred to a specialist who informed me that surgery to remove the mass was my only real option. Within 3 weeks  I was in surgery to have the tumor removed. Preliminary testing and pathology was done within a week and confirmed that it was Embryonal Carcinoma, a germ cell cancer.  Though the tumor was removed pathology showed evidence that it had reached my blood vessels and cold have spread outside of the original site. A followup PET scan confirmed further that there is metastesis in one specific lymph node, which without further treatment would likely spread to other areas of my body. Currently I'm noted as Stage IIA with hopes of remission after future treatment.

Where we're headed:

Since then I've seen a team at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa who have recommended Chemotherapy and/or Surgery to remove my abdominal lymph nodes. With the Chemo I would be expecting 3-4 cycles, roughly 4 months. If the surgery is the main treatment it would be a major surgery and have me out of work for about 6 weeks pending no complications. If both routes are taken then lets just say I'll see you all in 2018 when I've recovered.

What we need:

As you can imagine this a hard pill to swallow for someone who's typically been in good physical condition and had no major illnesses to speak of. Right now my wife and I are doing all we can to get me the best care possible, and ensure that there are many more days in my future. To that end however treatment can be very expensive, as is the impact of taking time off work for recovery and healing. I wouldn't ask for fincial assistance under normal circumstances. But after talking with several friends and family who were looking for ways to help we had the idea to put this Go-Fund-Me together for those who feel like contributing. If you have the means and feel like donating toward the cost of treatment/living while we battle this disease it is MOST welcome and appreciated. Thank you
