Maya Laidler's College Fund

David was filled with utter joy when his beautiful daughter Maya was born. She brought him immense happiness. He quietly battled cancer and was taken from us too early leaving behind his loved ones and sweet daughter. In memory of our dear friend and colleague, we have set up a college fund for his daughter, Maya Laidler. Below are our personal stories of David and we hope that you would share yours for Maya to understand the impact her dad had on the photo community and friends. Please join us in honoring David's contributions and memory by showing support to his family.

I came to New York not knowing what to make of a freelance career. I met with David one day and before I knew it he was my agent. He believed in me before I even knew what I was capable of. After Getty, he remained my mentor and my friend. He was there for me after an incredibly rough patch in my life. I will miss his boyish smile and giggle. I wish my children would have grown up knowing tito (uncle) David but thankfully, I have enough stories to share. - Marvi Lacar

David was like a big brother to me. I looked up to him and identified with the shy side of his personality. It was a challenge for him to put himself out there, but he also enjoyed the excitement of it with the goal of helping others. He was a giving, humble, and kind soul. David cared about his photographers’ careers; he listened and guided them. Without a doubt, he was one of the most authentic and genuine people I've ever worked with.

David was a beautiful person whose smile would reach in and touch your heart. He had an irrepressible grin and an infectious sense of humor. It was impossible not to feel happy and comforted by his company. David also had great integrity and passion.  He selflessly helped others, and yet even in his own time of need, he didn’t seek to rely on others.  He will be sorely missed, both as a friend and as a role model.
