Help Sarah Recover from CHIARI!

Donation protected
On April 29, 2013, I was diagnosed with CHIARI MALFORMATION. It is defined as a herniation of the cerebellum into the spinal cord. It has caused me severe pain, fatigue, dizziness, swelling, visual problems, and has also interfered with my cognitive function.

I had been experiencing bizarre ear pain for about 4 years, and gradually had succumbed to more severe symptoms like constant fatigue, joint pain and swelling, etc. My symptoms had begun to accelerate around August of last year.

I lost my job, and have since been unable to work. Resources to find an answer to my problems are very slim in my rural Alaskan town that I live in. Being financially destitute, my mother and step-father decided to send me to Connecticut, where they live so I might seek answers to so many questions.

I have been blessed being able to have the best medical service anyone can dream of at Yale University.

I am pleased to announce that I had Chiari Decompression Surgery on Tuesday, June 11, and I was released the very next day!

I am still in the early stages of recovery, which is akin to bedrest, except I can get up and move around if I feel up to it.

I am still beside myself that I was able to be released so quickly from the hospital after brain surgery, no less! I am also having trouble understanding that this surgery saved my life, and I don't have to fight anymore!

Thanks to all who have prayed, shared my story, and have donated. Every penny has been put to good use and has helped me with my medical expenses.
