Maty's Funeral

Her name was Maty.

She didn’t know how to read or write; signing her checks with a big “X”, yet she had the strongest work ethic of anyone I’ve known.

One example, the day after her otherwise healthy son died in his sleep at only 40, she came to work.  Broken and in tears, she rode the bus for two hours because she didn’t want to miss a day of work and let her clients down.

She was fiercely loyal and trustworthy; a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

For decades she was our housekeeper and I loved her.

This week sweet Maty closed her eyes forever and the world lost a good soul.

Maty’s daughter Maria Teresa, a career housekeeper herself, planned for this as best she could and for the last ten years or so has been paying off a burial plot for her dear mama.

But the cost of the modest funeral will still be in the thousands and while she hasn’t asked for help (that strong ethic was passed down to her) I am  trying to help this hardworking family by raising enough money to pay for the funeral and lessen their burden.

If you can spare a few dollars, my Dollar Angels, I will be forever thankful. ALL money collected here is going directly into Maria Teresa’s account.

Rest in Peace, sweet Maty. You leave behind a legacy of love and hard work that I will never forget. And while most don’t know your name, you made the world a better place.

“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”
