Matthew's Service Dog

Donation protected

Hello,
I am the mom of a 6 year old boy who has a rare genetic disorder. Part of Matthew’s genetic disorder includes daily seizures.  Currently he suffers from 2-24 seizures daily. He has had stitches on his head and face three times in the past six months due to falls from seizures.  Despite multiple efforts to reduce daily seizures and injuries related to them, including a strict medical ketogenic diet, various medication changes & significant environmental changes nothing has had a lasting impact on reducing his daily seizures or related injuries. I am now working on securing a seizure alert dog for Matthew.  This service dog would alert Matthew and me before a seizure begins and cue him to sit down or get into a safe place to prevent injuring himself or falling during a seizure. In some cases, service dogs have also been shown to reduce the occurrence of seizures - the reason why is not clear, but we are open to any possibility of improving his quality of life.

I am sharing all of this with you because I need to raise $40,000 before I can obtain a seizure alert dog. Would you consider donating to help me get closer to the amount needed to secure a service dog for my son? The funds will be used for: breeding, training, and caring for the dog; travel and lodging during the handler’s training; and home preparations - like fencing the yard, which is required by the organization providing the dog.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. It means more than words can express to have your support.

Sincerely,
Melanie
