This page is in support of our friend, Matthew Horner.
Matt is a talented ice climber, guide, sculptor, and all-around great person (as anyone who knows him can attest to). I have known and climbed with Matt for 20 years, and he's a wonderful human being. We all know he would do anything to help a friend or someone in trouble.

Matt had an ice climbing accident Feb 8, 2017, at Chapel Pond near Keene Valley. He fell 60 feet and suffered severe injuries. He was first taken to Elizabethtown Community Hospital, then transported via helicopter to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. His injuries include a 2cm brain hemorrhage, a severe concussion, multiple fractures in his face (a La Fort fracture), and soft tissue injuries to his right wrist, left knee, and hip.
Thankfully, in time, Matt should recover from these injuries, and will be able to guide and pursue his artwork again.
However, in the short-term, his doctors have advised Matt to limit his physical activity and mental stimulation. This will allow his body and the injury to his brain to heal. He also needs have at least one surgery to repair the fractures in his facial bones, and recover from that as well.
While Matt isn’t in love with the idea of a fundraiser, he certainly will not be able to work either as a guide or an artist for an unknown amount of time - and he has monthly bills as we all do. I have spoken to him and gotten his blessing for this fundraiser to help cover his expenses while he is unable to work (which could be a few months or up to a year).
Every donation will help Matt directly, and "many hands make for easy work". Even if you can only afford a small donation at this time, it all will add up and is appreciated! Sharing this fundraiser on social media will help Matt as well!
Matt wants to let you all know he is extremely greatful for the outpouring of love and support he has recieved! Please understand that Matt cannot respond to your outreach individually at this time. Matt's doctors have advised him that it's REALLY important for him to avoid screen time in front of a computer, cell phone, and other sorts of mental stimulation. He needs to rest his brain so he can recover!
Please accept my personal thanks as well. Many of Matt's local friends have already stepped up to the plate to help maintain his home while he is away. We live in an amazing community, and it's breathtaking to see how we all rally to help when one of us is in trouble.
