Mary Hendrickson Cancer Tx Fund

I have been friends with Mary Krabath Hendrickson for almost 40 years.  We met in our sophomore year of high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee and have been very close friends since. We have gone through so many of life’s milestones together: high school graduations, dating, weddings, husbands, births, raising families, jobs, divorces, deaths, you name it and one of us has probably experienced it.  We have helped each other through all of the joys and challenges life has thrown our way.

On January 26, 2018, my dear friend called to tell me that she had a mass on her right upper thigh.  There was dead silence on the phone after she said those words.  While I told Mary to not panic yet, I think we were both fearful of the worst. Since we both worked in a cancer center, we knew all too well it’s easy to jump to the worst conclusion.  Less than a week later, Mary had been through an MRI, biopsy and consult with the surgical oncologist telling her that she had cancer. Mary was diagnosed with an aggressive sarcoma, which is cancer of the muscles and bone.  Sarcomas are extremely rare with a recurrence rate of about 40%.  Mary underwent 5 high dose rate radiation treatments that so far seem to have done what they were supposed to do.  Radiation went well and Mary did not have to miss too much work.  Surgery is scheduled for April 12, 2018.  While her latest scans are “clean” meaning there is no sign of the cancer spreading at this time and her surgeon is confident surgery will be successful, Mary also needs to undergo 15 weeks of chemotherapy.  The oncologist said that chemo should decrease her chance of recurrence or the cancer spreading by about 15% but chemotherapy she will be receiving, Doxorubicin and Isfosomide, is an extremely strong regimen that will interfere with her ability to work until treatment has completed.

Mary is trying to stay as positive as possible throughout this ordeal despite the many obstacles she is facing.  While I can’t fix Mary’s cancer, I would like to help my dear friend through this life challenge by setting up this Go fund me account. Mary is single and has only 90 days of short term disability leave, at 60% of her salary, available to her.  She could be facing a couple of months of treatment without any income, along with various medial co-pays and deductibles not covered by her insurance.   Any money raised will go to Mary to help offset medical and living expenses she will incur throughout the cancer treatment process. Any donations and prayers during this difficult time are greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for your prayers and your generosity!!
