Manuel Cornejo Kidney transplant

Manuel Cornejo has been a member of Hood River County for 39 years. He is a father of 4 and grandfather to 3 beautiful children. He’s worked in the Hood River Valley doing agriculture work since he was 19 years young. He spends most, if not all of his time volunteering the local Spanish alcoholic’s anonymous group. This group has been part of his life for over 15 years. Unfortunately due to medical issues he was not able to work and was forced to go on disability. Sadly it’s been a financial hardship on Manuel and his wife.

Two years ago Manuel was diagnosed with kidney failure. On top of that he’s a type 2 diabetic. He’s been undergoing dialysis treatments 3 days a week for the last 2 years. As you can imagine this has taken a physical and emotional toll on him and his family. The good news is doctors see him fit and ready for a kidney transplant. However, before moving forward with the procedure there are financial and housing requirements he has to meet. Your donation to Manuel will go towards temporary housing in Portland, OR near OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University), meals for him and 2 full time caregivers as well as transportation. He will be required to stay within a 20 drive from OHSU for the next 3-4 weeks in case of any medical emergencies after the procedure as well as regular office visits (2-3 days a week).  

As soon as we provide evidence to OHSU that Manuel can afford housing and meals while he recovers, they will move forward with the transplant.
