Aloha!
My name is Mandy Sumner and I’m am part of the 2014 United States National Freediving Team. In September 2014, Team USA will be heading to the Freediving World Championships in Sardinia, Italy to represent the United States. Countries from all over the world will be sending their top 3 male and top 3 female athletes to compete on the world stage.
Individually, we hold 7 National Records and two World Records. Now we're coming together, six athletes from across the country, redefining what Americans can do in the water. Our team has but one dream: to proudly represent the United States of America. On the world stage, we'll go all-out in our quest to return home with medals on our chests.
I am currently training very hard as well as working full time and finishing my Masters Degree here in Hawaii. I started training in freediving (depth and breath hold) in January. The sport is very safe as one of the many things practiced is safety as well as knowing what your body can handle. Obviously there are always anomalies, but I do practice safe diving techniques always with another safety diver and do not push myself to extreme limits. To make it as far as I have in this short amount of time and to be representing my country as part of Team USA is unbelievable and exciting!
I’m reaching out to ask for your support. As of right now, we are paying out of pocket indivdually for our trip to the World Championships next month. I am really excited about this lifetime opportunity and am asking for your help to make it to World's this September. Every penny counts :)
