There are more than 3.5 million people experiencing homelessness in the United States each year, according to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. **Shortages of low-income housing continue to be a major challenge. For every 100 households of low income renters in the United States, there are only 30 affordable apartments available,

**according to a 2013 report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

To Whom It May Concern:

Make Change for Change is asking for donations to provide funding to our charitable organization so we may inspire hope, offer help, and provide homes to those who need it most. We are a MA 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity. Make Change for Change focuses on homelessness and the accompanying byproduct, the feeling of helplessness. We are volunteers, activists, and facilitators within the community that have a plan to create living spaces for those who need it most. As you are aware, positive messaging and the volunteerism only goes so far – this is where you and/or your organization can lend a helping hand. We need to execute on our plan to build eco-friendly, contemporary living spaces for those in need. These homes will be small in scale but offer a massive boost in morale and even more importantly, hope.

Why are we focusing on this idea? Simple, we believe that stability comes from a strong foundation. The double-meaning is purposeful – a physical space to call your own and the mental boost you get from the pride of home ownership. We will start with a series of small spaces, build a community, and then drive the message home that there is more out there than just the promise of assistance and placement.

Help us deliver on our mission in a way you feel will make a difference. We are thankful and inspired by any amount – whether it is enough to buy a box of nails or a nail manufacturer.

The 3H’s methodology; inspire Hope, offer Help and provide Homes. This recipe is designed to inspire families from all walks of life and financial composition to come together and help us transition homelessness to a fulfilling home life. Your donation will benefit the construction of homes and to support our brigades (see below).

We spend a lot of time marveling at our technological and medical breakthroughs over the past 25 years and very little time proudly recanting our social advances. Small donations towards big programs make a huge difference. We are optimistic that your donation – regardless of size – will help put a substantial dent in homelessness.

With our sincerest gratitude,

A Message from Make Change for Change:
“We the People must provide hope, gain trust and help our fellow citizens who cannot otherwise help themselves.”

THE 3H’S – A PROGRAM FOR CHANGE:

(INSPIRE) HOPE:

Hope is inspired from a variety of actions or activities. Hand a houseless person a survival backpack in the winter or hold a gingerbread house craft session at a shelter for children. Even a simple conversation at a shelter with someone shows that these folks aren’t being ignored. As an organization we carry out “Brigades”. Our actions and activities in the community are carried out by our volunteers, directors and our “advisor militia”. We hope to inspire local families to join with their children, and to teach lessons around empathy and gratefulness.

(OFFER) HELP:

The Brigades provide us with the ability to connect with a variety of individuals and families who have fallen on hard times. We cultivate relationships through casual, repetitive visits – these drop-ins develop trust over time and is a key factor in our success. Eventually these conversations evolve into stories which add context into the current situation. From this we are able to understand and identify a root cause and proceed to defining what action would provide the greatest amount of help. It might be some degree of directionality – you need to go here or here to get this type of assistance – for example. Families that have become nomadic may need to learn where local foodbanks or shelters are located, and so on. We often find that military families need administrative help with their pension forms or even with social security. Someone faced with the daunting task of complicated paperwork may find themselves paralyzed with fear and anxiety – a little reassurance and a small amount of expertise goes a long way in allaying those issues. The people who need the most help – those without homes for example – are often faced with a simple yet complicated issue… a self-addressed stamp envelope. They have no home, no address and no idea what to do next. We can help – we WANT to help.

(PROVIDE) HOMES:

The dictionary has a subtle difference between a house and a home. A home is defined by people living at a location together and a house is a structure where people can live. One is defined by a physical construct and the other a social construct. We feel that all families deserve a home – a private space where your family and loved ones can care for one another. Shelters exist for a specific purpose – to provide shelter. Rooming houses offer you four walls and a ceiling. Both are just a place to put your stuff while you figure out your next move.

We are sold on the concept of “tiny homes”. They are most cost-effective, eco-friendly and frankly take up less space. Our vision is to create “micro-villages” out of these tiny homes. Consider having 15-20 small homes with centralized laundry, pantry, outdoor activities space, playground for kids, garden boxes and other amenities usually reserved for private estates. We would promote a contemporary living environment that is socially conscience and, at the end of the day, mobile. It’s essentially a revolutionized and rebranded trailer-park.

We would have a few options for these mini-estates; rent, rent-to-own and purchase. The original investment in the family and their stability may lead to their own desire to give-back. We can envision them owning and renting their own estate to the next family in need. We want people to feel the pride of HOME ownership.
