<div>On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Shelby and Anthony suffered the unimaginable loss of their beloved son, Maclaine Schmidt, who was an innocent victim of a tragic domestic murder-suicide in Mundelein, Illinois.

<div> Maclaine was a gentle, kind, and wonderful young man with a bright future ahead of him. Pursuing his love of the culinary arts, he was carving out his own path in restaurant kitchens across the North Shore. The pride Shelby and Anthony felt in him was clear to everyone who knew them, and his passing has left an enormous void in the lives of all who loved him.

<div> Friends have created this fundraiser to help carry Shelby and Anthony through the immediate burdens of this devastating loss. While state victim assistance reviews can take months, the practical expenses cannot wait. Contributions will go directly toward memorial and funeral arrangements, grief counseling, legal and administrative costs, and essential living expenses, including household bills, utilities, meals, and groceries, giving them the breathing room to grieve without added financial pressure.

<div> Any contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the weight on their shoulders during this heartbreaking time. If donating is not possible, sharing this page is a deeply meaningful way to support Shelby and Anthony and honor Maclaine’s life.
