As most of you know, I play the trumpet and have had much sucess throughout my trumpet playing years. This summer, I move on to a new level of prestige. I am a member of the 2015 Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, which is a part of Drum Corps International. It is the professional level of marching band, like the NFL for football. Being a member of The Cadets has been a dream of mine since 8th grade. The Cadets are one of the most prestigious Drum Corps within DCI. They were established in 1934 and have won ten national championships. They have also not placed lower than sixth place since 1983. I am thankful that my dream has finally been realized and I am able to participate in such an accomplished group!

However, as much as I know I want to be in The Cadets, I know I could do other things this summer. During this past fall I was trying to figure out what God wanted me to do and where. I knew I could go on mission trips, or intern at church or be a member of The Cadets or any number of things, but God really laid it on my heart that I needed to go to The Cadets. There is hardly any, if any at all, Christian influence within drum corps. There are so many people that are lost and have distorted views of Christianity and not have many opportunities to hear what Christianity is really about. Many of these people are finding who they are in music and we know the only true thing we can find complete satisfaction, identity and fulfillment is through Jesus. I really felt God calling me to be a witness to the members of The Cadets. I will be living with these guys and girls for 4 months and I believe God will bring many opportunities to share His love. I'm not going in with the mindset of "slapping" them with the bible. That will accomplish nothing. I believe thatif I go in with a servant's heart and a positive attitude, they will begin to notice something different about me and will be drawn to me. I believe God will use me to dispell thoughts that Christianity is about rules and what you cannot do. I want to show the members of The Cadets that it is about your relationship with Christ and the freedom and fulfillment that comes with it.

Unlike the NFL, the participants of DCI have to pay for all the expenses of drum corps. The total cost is $3,700, I need 74 people to donate $50 each. If you cannot donate $50, it is okay! Any amount will be very beneficial! Because God has called me to The Cadets this summer, I know He will provide the means to pay for it. You can be a part of how God provides my way to The Cadets this summer and help me to minister to the people there!
