Hi, My name is Allye McDaniel and I am a proud teacher and Grade Team Leader at Mott Hall Bronx High School, a public school in the Bronx. Our school is extremely vibrant and diverse which unites us as the strong community we are. Our involvement with programs like International Baccalaureate (IB) Program and BuildON encourage our students to see and do more for our world. My students are the most honest, curious and brilliant people I have ever met which is the reason I choose to do my work each day.
Our 11th graders, who I started teaching their freshmen year, are preparing to embark on their next journey..College! As juniors, we offer our students an opportunity to visit multiple colleges on a three-day overnight trip. This is the first time that many of our students get to visit colleges, especially in Upstate New York. However, this opportunity comes at a cost due to travel, hotel fees and activities for the multi-night trip.
With upwards of 5 or 6 college visits and tours, two nights in hotels, all meals accounted for and activities in between, $2500 seems to make a dent for our students and their families. Our trip will be happening in mid- April so the goal is to try and raise as much as possible by April 16th. Although it is quickly approaching, we have been fundraising through our school, but have realized how much farther we need to go. All I want from what I do is to see my students succeed; not just by going to college, but by continuing to make an impact. With the help of our communities of friends, families and supporters, I hope that we can get there.
