About a month and a half ago our mom/ wife was rushed to Queens Medical Center due to a brain aneurism she experienced at work. During the three weeks she spent in the ICU, she was able to get two procedures done; she had a shunt placed in her head that connected to her stomach to allow any fluids in her head to drain into her stomach. Then she also got a stent to help block the aneurism off for easy blood flow through her brain. After spending about three weeks in the ICU, she was then transferred to rehab of the pacific to slowly begin occupational and physical therapy and on her way to recovery.
After about spending a week in rehab, the unexpected happened on a saturday night where she began to bleed profusely. She was rushed to Kuakini ER where they tried to stabilize her, but they could not get her bleeding under control and immediately rushed her back to Queens Medical Center where they were able to stabilize her. Sunday morning she got an angiogram and CT scan which showed that she had a massive stroke in three different parts of her left side brain which was the frontal, temporal and cerebral. The CT scan that the doctor went over with us showed patches of dead brain tissue.
Come that following monday morning, our mom had another massive bleed which resulted in the doctor telling us that she would probably go by that afternoon. But to our surpise, Dr. Alam, one of the best ENT specialist in the nation, along side with his partner, Dr. Klem, was able to come in and pack our moms nose with special packing to help stop the bleeding and she began to stabilize after they were able to give her 4 units of blood. She was then taken in for another CT and angiogram. This time the CT showed that the bone in our mothers/ wifes sinus area was slowly eroding, due to the radiation treatments she has received through out the past twelve years due to nasal cancer. The doctors had told us that the radiation had also spread and killed the tissues in her nose area as well. The eroding bone in her sinus area is known as delayed radiation necrosis which is a side effect of radiation therapy given to kill cancer cells and which can occur after cancer treatment has ended. Due to the eroding of her sinus bone, her carotid artery, which is the artery that carries blood from the heart to the brain, is now fully exposed with no protection.
Our mom/ wife remains in critical condition in the ICU at queens leaving the Doctors with no solution in regards to her eroding sinus bone and spontaneous major bleeding. According to the Doctors, the bleeding has now become the bigger issue because there is no procedure, injection or medicine that can stop the bone erosion. Along with the frustration of seeing a loved one in the hospital for so long with no solution comes the stress of the overwhelming medical bills that need to be paid. With only one working parent, we are asking for your support, love and prayers to help raise $10,000 dollars that will go towards any and all medical bills and expenses that have accumulated during this time. Although this may not pay for all of the medical bills, it will help reduce some of them. Thank you for your support and we are very grateful for any donations you are able to give.
