Supply/labor run to East Texas

Donation protected
East Texas has been hit with an unprecedented amount of water from Hurricane Harvey. It's still raining. People will die, be left homeless, pets will be missing or killed. Schools, Doctors offices, Fire Houses will be destroyed.

Help Solidarity Maryland*** (a Maryland based, all volunteer solidarity activist group) fill a truck with supplies to take to East Texas and distribute, much like we did for Standing Rock and Flint. We will work with activist colleagues and groups in the area to ensure the goods go to those in the most need.

We'll also spend 3-4 days in the area to help clean up: clearing debris, tearing out moldy sheet rock and carpet, hauling garbage, and basically working to get homes habitable again. We'll focus on the poorest and most neglected communities; people who cannot afford to pay for the labor needed and aren't being serviced by traditional releif orgs.

There are many local groups who are doing great work, mostly still focusing on rescue. We'll be fresh able bodies when they are worn out, tired and sick from living through this catastrophic life event.  Help us give them a break and some moral and physical support.

Help fund our labor and supply run by making a donation here, on our GoFundMe.

Donated $$ will cover gas, rental of truck, 2-3 nights in a hotel on travel nights*, food stipends for volunteers, tolls, campsite for non travel nights. We'll also rent a generator to allow people to charge their devices, if we have enough $$.

Truck rental: $800
Trailer rental: $250
Gas/Diesel: $500
Tolls: $60
Hotel x 2 rooms, 2 nights: $400*
Camping in TX: $200**
Meals for volunteers: $400 (6 volunteers X 8 days)
Generator: $200
Cushion: ~$500 (these are esitmates only, expenses could increase as gouging happens during a time of emergency, and all of the volunteers are struggling themselves. Gas and food could be more expensive than usual, and due to limited lodging, we will most likely have to stay 1+ hours away from the outskits of the disaster.)

If we do not meet our goal to cover travel expenses, we will not withdraw any funds and all donors will have the option to either get their $$ refunded or pass along to another group on GFM. We will not be withdrawing any funds until Sept 14, at the earliest, in order to rent the truck and trailer to start collecting donations over that weekend.

We'll have room for 3-5 people to go to Texas to help distribute. This will be a "roughing it" trip to last 7 days. We'll camp for a portion of the trip. Fill out this form if you are interested in joining us (Leaving from Baltimore):

*Thanks to a generous donation of hotel points, we do not need to cover hotel rooms for travel days. Our total has been reduced to reflect this difference.

**We are now traveling for only 7 days (initially estimated at 8-10) so we'll only be camping for 5 nights. The total for that expense has been changed to reflect the difference.
