Lyndee's Fight against Cancer

As you may know, one of our own VBEMS Medics – Lyndee Tripp, was diagnosed with cancer in May of this year. After seeking second opinions at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, she began an 18 week course of chemotherapy on June 8th . She has completed 8 weeks of treatment and expects, if all goes well, to complete  chemotherapy in early October. She will continue to have additional treatments, scans and follow ups for the foreseeable future. Lyndee has been a part of Virginia Beach EMS since 2000. Before being hired as a Career Medic with the Department, she served as a volunteer EMT and Paramedic for 13 years with Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad and Blackwater Volunteer Rescue Squad. During her time as a volunteer, she worked tirelessly on recruiting and retaining our volunteer ranks, and in both rescue squads also served as Assistant Squad Commander. Since becoming a Career Medic, Lyndee has focused heavily on the mental health and well being of our providers, and serves on the TEMS CISM Team and the the VBEMS Medical Operations Review Board. As you can imagine, this has been life altering for Lyndee. She and her husband, Dennis, have incurred expenses related to travel, medical bills and housing. She is continuing to work through treatment and spends her days at VBEMS HQ currently with an occasional day out on the streets. It is expected that, as she continues her treatment and ongoing care, additional medical and travel expenses will accumulate. We are hoping to help offset some of those unknown expenses.
