Lauren was diagnosed with a unicuspid valve, which is a congenital heart defect. She was diagnosed when she was just a few weeks old. Basically her valve stopped growing when she was a baby compromising her ability to be active as a child. Lauren was restricted from doing a lot of things you would find in any normal child hood organizing sports, PE and any activity that would strain her heart were off limits.  After being closely monitored for her whole life living on edge of when she would have to have this repair fixed. Lauren went for consultation and at 19 years old with a job and social life has found herself with an immediate need for surgery. The day of her surgery she was in high spirits and ready to take on this procedure. The surgeon had Lauren on the table for 8 hours as we patiently waited and hoped that the surgeon had fixed her heart for good and no more necessary surgeries. After the surgery Lauren was put in a medically induced coma. This was helping reduce the stress on her heart from the multiple repairs that were made during surgery. The surgeon made us aware that this was one of the most difficult surgeries he had to repair and that if Lauren did not have this surgery she would not have lived another year. When Lauren was weaned off the ventilator she was motivated to get back to herself. One of the first questions she asked was if she could have her computer so she could work on her homework.  After 10 long days Lauren was able to go home.  A few weeks have past and Lauren has been readmitted for complications. The most recent complications that she is suffering from is a pericardial effusion, which is when there is fluid in the cavity surrounding the heart. She was treated medically which seemed to help some but now the fluid has returned with even more fluid around her heart causing her atrial wall to collapsed. Lauren has had to put her school and her life on the back burner yet again while doctors figure out the next move. I started this go fund me account for Lauren because she is an amazing person with a great attitude with a warm smile. I'm afraid she is going to lose her spark of energy. It feels like there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel here. Hopefully this fund me will cheer her up and help with some financial burden setbacks. I would like to earn 7,000 her lucky number is 7 and she is one lucky lady.
