Love for our Cancer Kickin' Girl

Donation protected

Friends.... We started this important fund back in August as a way to support our beautiful friends Ashley and Tim, a young couple living in Washington, D.C. where Ashley fought Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer for almost two years.  As most of you know by now, she earned her purple Angel Wings on October 9, 2013.  So many of us were blessed by her friendship, her fighting spirit and her courage continue to find ways to keep her precious memory alive.  I have kept this fund active in the hopes that it is a way for us to continue to send support to her beloved husband Tim.  I know that he has some big plans to honor and help create hope and support for others.  In the meantime, it is my hope that we can all do little things, in her honor, to help those still fighting.  Although it remains very difficult for Tim to visit the blog that brought us all together, I know that he is very appreciative for the love and support and ideas that you all have shared with him. It has been such an honor for me to be able to communicate with so many incredible, generous, compassionate friends and I hope each and every one of you is blessed a hundred times over for the love you pour out on them.

February 27, 2014

I would like to share the story of my friend Ashley and her husband Tim. They are a young couple living in Washington D.C. and Ashley, age 28, is fighting stage IV pancreatic cancer. I encourage you to go check out her blog cancerkickingirl.com where you will read their story in their words. I have been wishing for some time trying to come up with a way to offer them some support. I cannot even imagine what kind of expenses they have incurred in this fight, but as she has spent most of the summer confined to a hospital bed, it has become more and more urgent to me to reach out and help. I have asked them often what can I do to help, and they truly do not ever ask for a thing. After successfully (Praise God!) undergoing a risky, life changing surgery on Wednesday, I decided now was the time for me to step up and do something!

Please know that all donations WILL go directly to Tim and Ashley! They have the password and will be able to withdraw all funds themselves. Unfortunately, because I set it up for them, and connected it to my facebook, I am unable to change the statement that the funds are going to me. Please contact me for any information, or reach out to Tim and Ashley as well. I just wanted to get something started so that they can focus on recovery!!!

I have been working on several fundraiser and raffle ideas, and I reached out to a friend who has had a lot of success with support like this to ask how to get my million ideas into action. Her response was to start with community or hometown, that is where you'll get the biggest support. While well meaning and very true, I decided not to wait another second. Ashley and Tim live in DC, their families are all miles away in Michigan, but with the support of beautiful people from all over the world who have been touched by her story, why can't we come together and BE the community to love and support this courageous girl and be her extended family.

The journey, their story, the details are best read at cancerkickingirl.com, as I am just a friend who has fallen in love with this special couple and consider them family. I will add that in the short time that I've known them, every time I am around them or read an update, I am a changed in some way. While many of us want to love and support her, it is ASHLEY who simply radiates positivity, hope, and all kinds of inspiration (ok, Tim too.. that latest post will move you to tears!!). (In other words, I think it's supposed to be the other way around!!) I was blessed to spend the day at the hospital with her husband, parents, inlaws and special friends, praying and sharing stories while she spent hours and hours in surgery, and this time that "change" was nothing short of profound. The moment that surgeon came out to let Tim know that it had been successful was one I will not ever forget. There is a song... "I saw God today...." I did. And I'm blessed for knowing them.

Still with me? If you'd witnessed what I did that day you'd be rambly too!!! I am still working on some FUN things (like football tickets, sports memorabilia, and even something from her beloved Detroit Tigers to remind her of HOME). I am working on another order of her fabulous cancerkickingirl bracelets (which have been worn by the likes of LEE BRICE, DIERKS BENTLEY, and TOBY KEITH, by the way!) and will let you know just as soon as I have them available for purchase... to spread the message of "Know it. Fight it. End it." and to help us feel close to her in some way. But in the meantime, I have set this site up as a way for you to make a financial contribution of any amount, and help make their journey just little bit easier.

I will close with heartfelt thanks for reading, for the outpouring of love and encouragement you have already sent to this dear girl, and special thanks in advance if you are able to offer support in any amount. They have been in the hospital basically all summer, and the recovery time from this surgery is going to keep them there for at least another three to six weeks.

God bless!!

xoxo Christy
