Meet the Johnson family
Jeramie, Stacy, Blake and Aiden.
In November, 2012 this beautiful family received news that Jeramie was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer. This family, with their unwavering devotion to God and each other began their journey to fight this disease together, while keeping their life as normal as possible for their boys.
One month after his diagnosis, Jeramie underwent his first major surgery followed by intensive chemotherapy treatment. Finding strength in his faith, family and friends, Jeramie continued to work and coach the boys’ baseball teams.
Jeramie played baseball at the collegiate level and together the family shares their love of the sport. When the boys started Little League, Jeramie began coaching. But it wasn’t just his own boys that he coached, it was the community. He is a coach and mentor to so many young ball players focusing not only on baseball skills, but much more. Jeramie ensured that each kid received support, guidance, instruction and a role model of family and faith going beyond developing ball players, but developing young men.
In July 2013, Jeramie received a “clear” scan and the community rejoiced. At the same time, Jeramie received an opportunity to continue his same work in Kentucky. Although moving away from their family and friends was difficult, the opportunity to rejuvenate and renew with a new adventure brought optimism. Of course it didn’t take long for this wonderful family to become embraced by a new community filled with love and support in Kentucky.
Not more than a year later, Jeramie fell ill again and in December 2014 was told that the Cancer had returned. The family decided to move back to California to continue his care at The City of Hope. Continued support by 2 communities and their families, the Johnson family began to fight again. Jeramie endured another massive surgery in March 2015 followed by more chemotherapy. The families bond and faith gave Jeramie the strength to continue to coach while receiving his daily treatments. Coach Jeramie and his attached medicine bag continued to give his boys and his teams everything he had.
In February 2016, the Johnson family was given the devastating news that Jeramie was not responding to treatment and there was nothing more that could be done to stop this horrible disease. Jeramie was given 3-4 months to live. Receiving the news and the knowledge and certainty of what will soon follow, the family is doing the best that they can to enjoy every minute they have together.
The family’s devotion and love to each other, their family, friends and community is evidenced in their strength in continuing to go on as best they can. Although the last thing they want to do is inconvenience or burden any one, we know that 3 ½ years of medical bills, a cross country move and upcoming hospice care is beyond overwhelming. In addition, Stacy’s work as an elementary school teacher leaves the family without any income for these most difficult summer months ahead.
It is us, the friends and family of the Johnson’s, asking you to join our campaign to help this amazing family focus on loving and living for these next precious months rather than worrying about the overwhelming costs and reduce the financial burden that inevitably will remain.
