Lou's Liver Fund

Donation protected
This is my father, Louis Laprade. He is an amazing father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather.
My parent’s lives were flipped upside down in May of 2013. Dad went in the hospital for hernia surgery, and a few weeks later exhibited abnormal medical concerns. We learned he was showing symptoms of end stage liver disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and Hepatitis C (a silent killer he had lived with unknowingly for many years). Dad’s symptoms come on so quickly and with such vengeance, he has since been unable to work. He has little to no energy to accomplish even the simplest daily tasks without help.
After Dad battled through months of debilitating treatment, my parents were told that treatment was unsuccessful. Since that call months ago, Dad has waited for a new drug, Harvoni, to be FDA approved – finally the FDA approved it, but his insurance rejected coverage on this life saving drug. Now, MONTHS have passed, and once again, we are waiting for results from the appeal to the insurance company in desperate hope that they will consider helping him one more time with much needed treatment.
Dad has been in and out of the hospital over the last year.  He has doctors’ appointments regularly, and by the Grace of God, he is meeting with liver transplant specialists within the next month to be evaluated for a new liver in the upcoming future. Without medicine, Dad will continue to decline and eventually a liver transplant will be the only option.
I have humbly set up this fund because the medical/living expenses over the last year and a half have been insurmountable. Mom used all her vacation time long ago, and has missed a lot of work to care for Dad. Expenses associated with this horrible disease are unending.
My father is aware this fund exists. He worries about medical bills all the time. I want him to focus on himself and getting better, not how they will pay these bills. So I appeal to my friends and family, if you are lead in your heart to give even just $1 or $5 any amount will help.
We are a family of faith and trust that God will provide somehow, someway. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring enough to read about my father’s journey. We ask for your prayers for his strength to fight and overcome this disease.
