Becca's Van Wheelchair Conversion

Donation protected
Hi everyone

Can you imagine watching your child suffer everyday with challenges neither she nor you can control? To feel the frustration that there are no medical answers to remedy or relieve your child's pain and to see the anguish in her beautiful face daily?  For us, each day is a question mark, knowing that our worst nightmare is only a phone call or a seizure away. It is heartbreaking!

It is with much humility that we have decided to share our story with you. We are here seeking assistance from those who may be willing and able to help us. Our family has reached a point of struggle with the financial requirements necessary for Rebecca’s care.

Rebecca is our sweet 10 year old daughter with the most contagious smile. Her smile is genuine as she is unaware of her daily struggles. She was born with a genetic disorder called “1p36 Deletion Syndrome”. This means, she’s missing part of chromosome 1 causing her to be severely impaired. She is unable to walk or talk, has hearing loss, visual impairment and countless frequent and severe daily seizures (Click Here - NBC 6 Becca's Seizure). She requires to be fed through a feeding tube to supplement her nutrition. She is fully dependent on us for ALL of her daily living and activities, including help with all of her mobility needs.

To some, Rebecca's struggles would be a burden, but to us, we know the irreplaceable joy she brings. Even with these circumstances, our love for Becca is beyond overwhelming. The financial burden and inabilities to provide her with every opportunity are the challenges which we face today.
Despite all of Becca's medical requirements and necessities, she is one resilient little girl and has touched so many lives by being her sweet little self and deserves so much more. Her progress is slow and unfortunately, because of her continuous uncontrollable daily seizures, she takes two steps forward and one step back.

Due to Becca’s physical impairment, one of her most important needs is the use of a wheelchair for all of her mobility. Transferring and transporting Becca without a wheelchair accessible vehicle has become nearly impossible for us. The ability to attend Doctor/Specialist appointments, therapies, and everyday car rides are extremely difficult, if not almost physically impossible.  Rebecca's ability to participate and be more involved in the community is becoming very limited. She is only 10 years old and far from her final growth.

In addition to all of the extraordinary expenses of raising a medically complex child, we are now faced with the financial challenge of being able to provide the necessary funds for the modification of our minivan that will transport Becca safely and comfortably in her wheelchair. The total cost alone just for the modification of our minivan, including all related expenses is $32,500.  We have always done our best to provide for Becca, but unfortunately, we have reached a crossroad where we must ask for your help with this financial challenge and that's why we are here.

Our family has always been involved in our community by supporting children who don’t have a voice. We have been committed to so many different organizations throughout the years advocating for causes that are so close to our hearts, Children with disabilities.  The love we have for Becca is the reason we now come to you for your support and generosity to help us with the funding to convert our vehicle to become wheelchair accessible. By achieving our goal, Becca will be able to have so many more experiences outside of our home with us as a family.  We truly appreciate any contribution, big or small or anything in between.

Thank you so much in advance for all of your heartfelt thoughtfulness, consideration and love for Becca.

With much appreciation,

The Hyman Family
