Link's New Heart

Donation protected
On April 16th 2017, Easter Sunday this year, my sister gave birth to her first, a beautiful baby boy. Lincoln Timothy Herndon was born 4 weeks early and was in the NICU. 2 days after he was born, (while she was still in the hospital dealing with her own health issues like preeclampsia that almost killed her) she got a call that something was wrong with the baby. Link's oxygen levels had crashed in the middle of the night and they had to intubate him. The Drs said they weren't sure what exactly was going on and that they were still running tests to figure out what was causing this to happen. The next day the tests came back and they found out that he had a small stroke on the left side of his brain and the major thing, Link has a heart defect. He was then immediatly moved to the pediatric cardiac ICU in Shands at Gainsville Florida.

He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Basically what happened is that his left ventricle in the heart never formed and now his heart can't pump the blood to his body. After the Echo came back it was found that his lungs are getting too much blood. On May 4th he had a heart catherization done, this was to see the coronary vessels and see how they were formed outsdide of his heart. The results of this was he that had fistulas formed on the coronary vessles. The blood was not flowing correctly to his vital organs  and because of the fistulas his heart cannot grow.  On May 8th the team of Drs met and discussed his case, at that time the transplant team came into our lives. He is listed as 1A, which is the highest he can be listed as a transplant recipient.

On May 16th he underwent open heart surgery to put stents in his Aorta (PDA-Patent Ductus Arteriosus) to keep it open, the second one is in the Atrial Septum, the wall inbetween the 2 Atria. He also had to have Pulmonary bands put in to restrict the blood flow to the lungs. He is now recovering from this surgery and is waiting patiently for his new heart.

My sister has been traveling back and forth from the hospital and home, an hour each way. She is traveling 100 miles round trip everyday. I have created this with her in mind. She does have insurance for Link and herself through Medicaid but what we are asking for is her to have the ability to stay home from work, where she is a paramedic, for now and can be by Links side with out the worry. Her Fiance Justin is working a lot to be able to keep her by Links side but theres only so much they can do this this crazy economy. Would you please give to her family for them to be able to watch this baby boy grow and recieve his new heart. The money helps keep a roof over all their heads especially for when he is able to come home. We know he won't be able to come home until he gets that heart. This is going to be a long few months for them and any help is appreciated. I will update this page as his heart story progresses.
