Help an Imgurian Couple Back on Their Feet.

Donation protected

Times are tough for a lot of people and everyone has their own stories about how the economy has affected them, but one of our own has come upon some extremely hard times. Many of us know about her situation to some degree, and she has kind of distanced herself from the group and people in general because of her situation. I'm speaking of Lindsay and Cory.

As some of you may already know, Cory was in the Army and served proudly for our country. He was in Afghanistan in December of 2009 clearing out a tower and there was an explosion. 150 pounds of homemade explosives were detonated on the ground floor of the tower. Cory was knocked out of a third story window and then buried under eight feet of rubble. He remained buried for twelve hours before he was pulled out of the aftermath. Some of his injuries included a completely shattered spine which resulted in metal rods having to be installed in his spine. Most of his ribs were broken as well which caused one to slice through his left lung which eventually had to be removed. He broke both of his knees, his left arm, and both wrists. Cory has Traumatic Brain Injury, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and has developed a brain tumor from the impact of rubble landing on him. To this day, he still has night terrors where he will relive the event, and occasionally he will end up hitting Lindsay on accident during these events.

Lindsay and Cory were told they would likely never have children, but Lindsay has recently become pregnant. They are excited about this, but it comes at a poor time when they are suffering from financial issues. Her Husband's injuries have left Lindsay and Cory in a situation where it is even more difficult than most people to get work. He does work when he can find it, but the disability they receive from the VA is their main source of income. He had been doing some temp work for a construction agency, and he was not supposed to be put on the books as a full time employee, but due to a clerical error he was. This caused the VA to greatly reduce their disability check every month (by $700). They were under the impression he was working every month, and it was just a temporary situation. He has been unable to find work for 4 weeks. They have corrected the issue with the VA and their income will be restored to what it was before, but they have already gotten into such a hole financially it will take them months to recover. They are behind on many bills and their bank account is overdrawn.

I have created this donation page to try and help another imgurian in need. Give as much or as little as you want. The goal is the bare amount of money they need to break even. This includes bills they are behind on, and their negative bank account balance. This does not include money they might need for food or other necessities. When the fundraiser ends, I will be driving to visit Lindsay and her husband to hand deliver the funds and deliver some food and other things I am trying to collect locally.

If someone is unable to donate via here, you can send money directly to my paypal contact me for the address. :)

EDIT:

We reached our initial goal!  Thank you to everyone who donated.  Lindsey and Cory have been moved to tears over everyone's generosity, and this will surely help them with their short term crisis.  I will continue accepting any additional donations to put toward helping them move out of the city they are currently in so they can move somewhere with more employment opportunities.  The goal was the bare minimum they needed to avoid major catastrophe.  They can hopefully recover from this and move and get their lives to a better place but any support from you will still be welcomed and greatly appreciated.  I will be bringing the fund to them on September 27th.  Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart.  This brings tears to my eyes on the support we received in such a short time.
