Linda Vanier Breast Cancer Fund

Linda is my wonderful mother and is a warm, compassionate and giving grandmother.  Thirty-four years ago Linda was hit by a drunk driver and is a paraplegic.  Last year she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. After her surgery she had to stay in the hospital for a month because she uses her arms to move herself and the doctor directed her not to use her left arm. Unfortunately, this caused her to get a deep pressure sore which caused a bone infection. This significantly delayed Linda’s chemotherapy and radiation treatment due to the fact that you cannot have open wounds during chemo.  After a long recovery period the breast cancer had metastasized to the skin and bones. The doctors started very high doses of chemo in hopes to stop the spread of the cancer. Once again she presented with pressure sores and now has stage 4 breast cancer.  Currently the only way to relieve Linda’s pressure sores is to surgically repair them.  In order to decrease the number of surgeries related to pressure sores; there is a bed used in the hospital called a Clinitron bed. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the cost of this bed for home use.  This bed would greatly improve my mother’s cancer treatment plan as well as reducing the amount of infections. Please consider donating so that Linda can continue her cancer treatment without interruptions. At this point in time Linda has had multiple surgeries is a short period of time and needs nursing home home care on a daily basis.
