Lil's Journey to the Hilltop #goats

Hi, I'm Lili - a 17yo homeschooled student. I've grown up in various places in WNY. I've always had an amazing amount of support from loved ones involving my academic stature. Living in rural areas has always made it difficult to find encouragement within these small school districts. It has always been a struggle when pushing for accelerated learning. So, after trying to make public school work, my family decided homeschooling was way more rewarding for me as a student.

Once my education hit the high school level at the age of 13, I became a student at Genesee Community College through their Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) program that caters to homeschooled high school students. They offer a NYS High School Equivalency Diploma by acquiring 24 credit hours (I now have 30cr.hr.) that then fully transfer into the credits needed for a college degree. During my time at GCC, I've received awards for being on the Dean's List twice and the Provost's List once, and I currently carry a 3.64gpa.   GCC has been my academic home for the past three years, and has fully prepared me for a four-year university. I am incredibly thankful for the existence of this program and I wouldn't feel as ready as I am now to leave home if it weren't for GCC and the ACE Program.

My dream career since I was a little human has been forensic pathology. I believe that the people who are now silent deserve a voice and their loved ones deserve closure. Once I was old enough to realize that there are other colleges besides Princeton (which I only wanted to go to because Hillary Duff did in 'A Cinderella Story'), my excitement grew at the thought of a school full of people that share the same passions.

After a lot of hunting, I found St. Edward's University, home of the Hilltoppers (or Goats), located in Austin, TX - a music indulged city after my own heart. The diversity of the campus's life, and the fact that their forensic science program is highly recommended, made me fall in love instantly. The school has been so helpful and supportive during the whole application process, which I appreciate as they worked with me throughout the difficulties and gray areas of being a homeschooled student. After all of the hoops that both I and St. Ed's admissions office jumped through, the crazy amount of stress and hard work paid off when I got my acceptance letter in the mail this past weekend.

The fall semester starts a week after I need to move in, which is now only 19 days away. My biggest fear right now is that this close deadline, and the little income my family of four lives on, will keep me from pursuing the future I have always dreamed of. Between my travel expenses from NY to TX, my deposits needed for enrollment and housing, and the basic necessities I need for every day life on campus, I'm hoping to raise $3500 to help disperse the cost by the time I leave home.

Thank You Thank You for your help, your support, your social media shares, and your contributions. This isn't an easy thing for me to ask from other people, but I appreciate all you can do to get me to where I belong. Again, thank you. From the bah(goat noise)tom of my punny heart.
