Help Us Lift Brian Up

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Lisa. Thank you for taking the time to visit our page. I have started this page on behalf of my brother, Brian Dominey, and his family of caregivers.

For those of you who do not know, my brother was diagnosed with a motor neuron disease in 2008. He is married and has two boys, ages 7 and 4, and has so much to live for. Brian has been unable to work since November 2007, and his wife, Stacey, was laid off from her job in January 2011. Her unemployment benefits were exhausted in April 2012. They have been living solely off of his disability income and donations.

I have started this page as a fundraiser to help raise money for an electric hoist. Brian has been bedridden for over 4 years and requires complete assistance with every need. His wife, our parents, and his mother-in-law are his main caregivers. Each time that Brian needs to shower, use the bathroom, get in his wheelchair, or to get in his standing frame, our dad lifts him and one other person has to assist. Our dad just turned 70 years old and has lifted Brian for all of these needs since he became unable to do them himself. We would like to help Brian and dad with an alternative method.

Brian has been given a demonstration of an electric hoist by "Surehands" (http://www.surehands.com/). It does not require a sling and would be very user friendly for his caregivers. It is the same style hoist that is used at the "Y". Brian's insurance does not cover any expenses for this. We still believe and look to our God for a miracle, but until that day comes we would like to make this situation easier on Brian and his family.

The company requires 50% down and 30 days for the remaining balance. You may review a copy of the quote from Surehands here. (Quote)

We are asking you to consider making a donation to help meet this need. Any amount helps and will be greatly appreciated. Whether you are able to donate or not, please "Help Us Lift Brian Up" in prayer.

On a more personal note, as I share my brother's story, even after more than 5 years, I still have a difficult time believing this is my brother I am speaking of. This is the kid I grew up with who had more energy and strength than anybody. I watched this little brother of mine become a hard working young man with dreams and goals. I watched him fall in love and marry the best sister-in-law I could have ever hoped for. They gave me 2 nephews that I love like my own. My mind is flooded with so many memories from childhood to where he is now. Brian worked at the Bridgestone Firestone plant in Aiken, SC for 10 years and had become a supervisor. He also managed a travel business and was planning to complete his degree in business management. To witness his life come to an abrupt halt the way it has is something I cannot put into words.

The love and support from friends and family through all of this has been something that has changed all of our lives. Thank you for reading our story.

Thank you and may God bless you.

Sincerely,

Lisa Dominey Stotts
