Less than 3 weeks left to get life saving surgery

This is a shared fund for Leah and Rachel as they both need to raise £350,000 each. The donations to this fundraiser will be split 50/50. Their individual page links are at the bottom.

Rachel Pighills and Leah Boxall are two mum’s fighting for life saving surgery in the USA and they only have 3 weeks left. Unable to get the surgeries needed in the UK both need the help of world renowned Neurosurgeon Dr Bolognese. Rachel and Leah found each other through the sharing of their fundraisers on Social media and they soon realised they had been treated by the same surgeon. Unfortunately, despite this surgeons help the two mums have procedures regarded as failed but with different reasons as to why. The NHS are unable to help as Surgeons are trained primarily in trauma and do not receive specialised surgical training for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a condition both ladies have.

Leah and Rachel are so happy to be able to support each other through this tragedy. We asked them what difference it makes to have someone else having the same experience. Leah said “These surgeries are so hard on the body, to have someone who understands the pain is priceless”. Rachel said “It has made things slightly more bearable to know I’m not alone in this” Both ladies have said how much they’re looking forward to meeting as they live far from each other.

As if by fate, the two have been booked in for surgery very close together. Rachel’s first surgery is booked in a week before Leah’s revision. Both ladies will be having three procedures but for different things. We have included their individual Go fund me links if you would like to read more about them. Rachel is currently suffering with life threatening breathing issues and requires Oxygen as her current levels are not high enough without support. Leah’s spine is collapsing forward with levels of screws detached from the metal rods holding up her spine. At any moment either her neck or metal can break causing anything from a stroke to death from vascular implications.

Thank you for helping to keep these mums with their families.
