'Life for Naomi' - A Fundraiser

Donation protected
My daughter Naomi is a creative, ambitious, fun-loving and adventurous soul but has had her life put on hold for 10 years by a debilitating illness, Chronic Lyme Disease.

Naomi exhibited Lyme-like symptoms at the age of thirteen, possibly contracting the disease on her childhood property near Gympie. Her somewhat “random” medical symptoms were largely ignored by doctors and put down to growing pains and possible viral infection.

She became seriously ill in 2004 at age 22, following an overseas trip to Europe. Over the next nine months, whilst still working full-time, her health rapidly declined, despite her every effort of living a healthy clean lifestyle: reducing stress, pursuing naturopathic treatments, and seeing numerous doctors.

She then reached a point where her bodily systems became so severely compromised that she could no longer work and had no choice but to move home to be looked after by her parents. She was finally diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at the end of 2005, along with a host of other conditions.

Over the next 5 years she treated the diagnosed ailments with various treatments, lifestyle changes and detox regimes; the list of therapies and treatments she has done is astounding, and it quickly consumed her superannuation fund of $20,000. Very little improvement, if any, was made with these treatments and it wasn’t until the end of 2010 that she was clinically diagnosed with Lyme Disease.

In the past few months, Naomi's health has taken a steep decline, despite our every effort. She is suffering from constant pain, severe fatigue, digestive disorders and neurological symptoms. She is mainly housebound except for medical appointments, and requires a great deal of support and care in everyday living, including all of her cooking and cleaning. Even short visits from friends are usually too much and worsen her symptoms.

Although the chance of complete recovery is decreased due to the length and severity of Naomi's illness, there is still hope for Naomi to regain some semblance of a normal, independent life. This is why she is continuing to strive for better health. Please know that she is doing everything possible to assist herself in recovery. She has a team of four practitioners, all specialists in treating her conditions (Chronic Lyme disease, Pyrrole Disorder, Hypermobility Syndrome, Sleep Aponea, toxicity and genetic MTHFR mutations). We are looking into other influencing factors, alongside Chronic Lyme Disease that may be contributing to her lack of successes so far with treatments.

The current treatment is incredibly costly, in excess of $2000 per month and very little of Naomi's treatments and medications are covered by Medicare. There is currently little-to-no support services and assistance available for someone in Naomi's situation.

Your donations will go towards these on-going medical expenses and treatments and help Naomi regain her independence which most of us can take granted. All help in greatly appreciated. Thank you.
