Life-Saving Surgery for My Dad Matt Doyle.  He needs to get this done as soon as possible as his condition is critical. He’s always been full of life, loving his friends and family, he is too young to give up and we are not ready to say goodbye. So please help if you can, and or pass it along to your contacts.

Four years ago my Dad was diagnosed with a progressive non-alcoholic liver disease. He stopped drinking alcohol 21 yrs ago. We are all very proud of the battle he has successfully won over alcohol. He has been an active member of AA and has helped many people stop drinking. So I was shocked to hear that his non-alcoholic liver disease had developed into a chronic condition. He has spent much of the past three years in the hospital consulting some of the best Hematologists In Japan. We’ve been told he has 6 months to a year to live or a little longer if he’s lucky. He’s in end stage liver disease with full failure inevitable.

His time in the hospital has depleted him of all his savings and any chance of receiving life saving liver transplant surgery. He has lived in Japan for 25 years and liver transplants in japan are very rare and not available to non-Japanese. So to receive surgery he has to travel abroad and his insurance will not cover the costs of overseas surgery. His doctors have suggested that he travel abroad for the operation as the level of care is excellent and the costs are within reach. This is known as Medical Tourism.

Liver transplant surgery in the USA costs $600,000+. We are planning to travel to Thailand or India, Mumbai because the hospitals there have the most respected programs in Asia with 25% of all patients being from overseas, with over 3,000 transplants performed. Many patients come from the the USA. And although the USA is our first choice as we are American the costs are too high. The same surgery can be achieved in India at about one fifth of that cost. I’ll be accompanying him as he cannot walk. So that will save us money.
Our costs are as follow:

1) $55,000 for operation 2) air tickets for me an Sam ( I need help going, I’ll be in a wheel chair + hospital requires 1 family member as rep.) $10,000 3) hotel for Sam $5,000 4) Long term hospital care with prep and waiting for available liver $10,000 after surgery $5,000 5) Unknown expenses $5,000 6) Hospital care back in Japan (2 months) $10,000 Total $90,000

If our goal is not achieved then all the funds will be returned and a licensed accountant has agreed to volunteer to provide a full accounting to donors of expenses encountered. We will also provide a daily blog with videos to follow the Trip step by step, if you do wish to view. He spent most of 2018 through 2020 in the hospital. All this time in the hospital broke his business. He has been trying to find part-time work to pay his recurring medical costs but his inability to guaranty consistent attendance severely limits his prospects. I am asking for help to pay for his only chance for a good quality and extension of life. I have a letter (in Japanese & English) from his doctors which support all medical claims and his continued attendance in the Kobe AA group is available to anyone who wishes to see them. I cannot post them here as they are not for public display but I can send copies per request. Thank you for your consideration. I also have some referrals from members of AA he has helped. Just ask and I will send it. Thank you、Matt’s son, Sam.
