Library for Kids in a Poor Village

Seven years ago I had the opportunity to live with the people of Puebla Mexico for two years. Even though many of them had so very little in material possessions they freely gave me so much in the form of love, support, and treating me like family.
My wife and I were comparing this to our lives, where we are blessed to live in the States, to have received an excellent education, and to have carpeted floor under our feet. We wanted to give back to those in need.
We feel strongly that the only way to come out of poverty is through education. As education will better themselves, their community, and future generations.
The Village of Santa Maria Atexcac is nestled on the slopes of the mountain Iztaccíhuatl. Historically the population has subsisted on farming, but farming on the slopes of Iztaccihuatl with steep ridges and rocky terrain is difficult. The community of 3000 is very close-knit as the difficulty of the terrain has made it a necessity to rely on each other for support.
Currently the children have no public library and the nearest library is 1hr away by car which very few have access to.
My wife and I have been working closely with the mayor on the project and the village has found a building for the children’s library, but it has only a handful of books and no computers to stock it. Your money will go toward buying books, from the classics to trade textbooks. It will remodel the building so all can come and enjoy it, and it will buy computers so they can access the outer world and learn from it. We will work with the mayor and community to make the library sustainable so it can be enjoyed for generations.
My wife and I are paying for all our expenses for the trip so all of your donations will go to the Children’s Library of Atexcac. This truly is an opportunity to make a real difference in the life of these children. We will be making the trip in February of 2016.
