Liberia Trip with G.R.G.

Donation protected
A few days ago, my brother approached me with the opportunity to travel with him to Monrovia, Liberia, in September, as suported by Global Resource Group.

Monrovia is the capital city of Liberia in West Africa, it's located on the Atlantic Coast. Just over 1 million people live in Monrovia making it Liberia's most populated city. Monrovia was founded in 1822, named after US President James Monroe, who was in favor of re-settling freed African-American slaves. As the city grew during the next century it was divided into two sections, one for the returning African-Americans and the other for the existing local population.

The city continued to grow as more people moved into Monrovia from the countryside. Things were looking up in the late 1970's as Monrovia's public housing and education system saw significant improvements. Unfortunately this came to a dead halt in 1980, when Samuel Doe led a military coup and Liberia was caught in two consecutive civil wars, infamous for their destructive violence. Today, Monrovia is at peace and Africa's first female president is in charge. Monrovia is a working port, but it's sprawling neighborhoods are generally poor with intermittent electricity.

Since Liberia’s Ebola outbreak began in March 2014, the country has seen more than 3,000 laboratory-confirmed cases of Ebola and another 7,400 probable cases, leading to more than 4,700 deaths, according to the WHO. A total of 375 health workers were infected and 189 lost their lives.  However, they have now confirmed the end of the outbreak, leaving them to repair the scar it left on the city.

The most common languages you'll hear in Monrovia are English, Bassa and Kru.

Global Resource Group is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit missions and development organization working in Liberia, alongside Living Water Fellowship Church, led by Jeremiah Nimely. So far they have partnered together to construct an eight-room schoolhouse, girls' dormitory, restroom facilities, clean water well, and have also hosted several teacher training activities.

On this trip, I will be doing photography and videography for Global Resource Group, as well as assisting in a micro-lending/business seminar for the people of Living Waters Fellowship Church, and conducting a worldview seminar with the pastors in Jeremiah's network.

I am looking for donations to the amount of $2750 in order to make this happen.  Any donations over that amount, will go towards the work being done by Global Resource Group.  You can donte via Go Fund Me or at www.globalresourcegroup.org by clicking on the donate tab, and selecting "Travel Fund - Kelli" folowed by the amount you wish to donate.

However, pay pal does take a fee out, so for larger donations, I ask that you send a check to Global Resource Group at PO Box 32813, Phoenix, AZ, 85064.

Thank you all so much for your support in this endevor.  May you all be blessed beyond belief for your generousity, kindness, and prayers.
