Lexy's fight

On July 29th, 2016, Alexis (Lexy) was officially diagnosed with an 8 in long tumor inside her spinal cord. (L2-T7) The tumor types suspected are very rare, occurring in less than 1,000 people in the country.

The first possible, and best case scenario is what specialists call an Ependymoma. An ependymoma is a tumor typically found in the brain and/or spinal cord. More often than not these tumors are usually benign. Typically patients with ependymoma's must be followed for years and undergo operations and re-operations if necessary. (See link below.)

The second type we are looking at is a tumor called an Astrocytoma. The more cancerous and aggressive of the two. Chemotherapy and radiation would be the answer after resecting as much of the tumor as possible. (See link below.)

Her initial surgeries are scheduled August 12th and August 13th (both 12+ hour surgery days) in hopes to remove all of the tumor. She will be at U of M hospital for several weeks, following acute inpatient rehab to regain mobility/strength for another 5-6 weeks.

The road ahead is scary, and with so many unknowns. We are asking for your help in supporting Alexis financially as she navigates this time of uncertainty. Your donations will help alleviate the strain of paying medical bills, as well as help Alexis be comfortable while recovering from spinal surgery. The after math of the surgery is uncertain. The recovery will be re-learning daily activities, much taken for granted to be honest. (Showering, walking, climbing stairs, going to the rest room, driving, not working, getting in and out of bed, putting socks on, getting dressed.. etc..) When you fall.. You get back up again. That is Alexis's plan.

If there are any leftover funds at the end of her medical journey, Alexis and her family will donate, with many thanks to the Neurosurgery and Pathology Department at the University of Michigan Hospital in honor of Paul W. Gikas M.D.

Your prayers and support are of utmost importance to us all at this time, but if you find yourself inclined and capable of assisting Alexis, we would be so thankful and grateful. All the love, support, and positivity is very much appreciated.  ❤

Updates will be posted as they come in. Again thank you everyone.
