Ukrainian Fundraiser: a Staged Reading

Pictured above are refuseniks Lev and Marina Furman. Born in Kyiv, Marina spent over a decade fighting the Soviet government for the right to immigrate to Israel. Her husband Lev was one of the most prominent underground Hebrew teachers in the former Soviet Union.

I am Noah Schoenberg, a new playwright and close family friend of the Furmans. Together, we’d like to use their story to aid Ukrainians suffering under Russian aggression.

My first play, Lev of Leningrad, explores the remarkable journey of the Furman family from Leningrad to Philadelphia. The play was selected as a finalist and received a staged reading as part of the Fulton Theatre's inaugural 'Stories of Diversity' festival last year.

We're organizing another reading of the play at the InterAct Theatre  in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 29 to raise money for Ukrainian relief.  Please donate to this urgent cause and attend the reading if you can. Tickets are free of charge with a donation of any amount and can be reserved here.

100% of funds raised will be donated to Sunflower of Peace, a nonprofit organization which began critical work in Ukraine in 2015. Sunflower of Peace's current mission is to provide medical and humanitarian aid to first responders on the front lines of the Russian military invasion in Ukraine.
