Lego Robotics World Final.

Wicklow Montessori Primary is a school in Wicklow and we have qualified to compete in the World Finals of the First Lego League robotics competition. We need your help to allow us to get there.

Here is our Airbots Facebook Page  where you can learn more about the team, and see lots of videos and photos.

The  First Lego League Robotics  is a global event where schools  from all over the world compete in three main events. As well as competing, we also learn about design, engineering, team work, and how to handle the pressure of the competition.

The Event is broken into 3 elements.

Robot Design : We have to design and operate a Lego Mindstorm EV3 Robot to complete as many tasks as possible in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

As part of this, we have to present to the judges our approach to our Robot design and the engineering involved. Our robot is called Aerobots Airbus A 380. We take inspiration from teams like this :

Project : We also have to develop a project that is related to hydrodynamics. We have chosen to research what happens to water when it is taken off you at airport security. This was really interesting and we have received lots of help from Dublin Airport on this. That simple bottle of water at security goes on a very long and interesting journey.

Core Values : We also have to explain and present the core values of the team. This is really important and we put a lot of time and effort into this. Not every team can build the worlds best Robot, but we can all explain our approach to working together and solving problems as a team and how we learn and understand our Core Values.

So far, the team has had to win our regional competition in Galway and this then took us onto the UK and Ireland finals in Bristol where we competed and won the Core Values Award (which qualified us for these World Finals). We have also been on the Radio and in the Newspapers which was great fun. We plan to get as much media coverage as we can to support this campaign.

Our team is made up of all the students from 6th Class and that's 9 of us in total plus our amazing teachers - Erica, Dara and Hayley. You can see them jumping around like crazy in the video of the day in Bristol. Our teachers have done so much to help us, and we are really thankful for their extra time and support. We have been in school for too many late nights to count.

We are representing Ireland as the National Champions in Detroit on 25th April - 28th April 2018 and we need to raise the funds to pay for our flights and accommodation.  It's pretty expensive getting from Ireland to the USA, but we know it's going to be worth it. It will be an amazing experience and we hope to represent Ireland in the best way possible and put us all on the map for World Robotics.
