Legacy Coffee in China

Donation protected
Here we grow! Help Legacy Coffee's specialty coffee business in Dalian, China get brewing.

Our story

For five years, Legacy Coffee has shared space with a local tea shop. Finally, we have secured our own location where we will:
- create a warm café environment
- roast small-batch coffee
- house the first coffee lab in northeast China.

We plan to decorate with a Canadian theme, complete with retro Canadian tourism posters, vintage snowshoes mounted on the wall, antler chandeliers, and a cozy fireplace. Walls will be painted Maple Leaf Red.

Our background

Brian Clark, owner of Legacy Coffee has almost 20 years' experience in the coffee industry and Specialty Coffee Association certification as an authorized roaster and trainer. His vision is to introduce coffee [and Canadian] culture to even more of our Chinese neighbours.

How we plan to give back

We already source the bulk of our green beans from a coffee farm in the Yunnan province of southern China. The coffee from this farm is organically grown, direct trade. The farm gives back to the local community through free medical clinics, education, and by cooperating with locals to improve infrastructure.

As we open our café, and with help from a non-profit organization in Beijing, we plan to employ aged-out orphans (children who have left the adoption system but have not been adopted). These children have little prospect for future education or employment, but we plan to offer them service industry and barista training in our coffee lab and café, with further business training and opportunities as we grow, including training in coffee roasting.

What's next?

With partially renovated space and a significant amount of equipment and furnishings inherited from a previous tenant, as well as health and fire code licensing transfer, we have a fantastic head start!

However, we still need to fund the following renovations:

- painting all walls
- installation of lighting, flooring, and air conditioning
- installation of sound system and security system
- creation of an in-house roasting space
- purchase of tables and chairs
- equipment purchase for coffee lab
- decorations
- new signage

What your backing means to us

You will have an integral part in the successful launch of Legacy Coffee's café in China. And your dollar goes a lot further here! All the above can be accomplished for $35,000-$40,000 CAD.

With your help, we will complete the renovations necessary to create a truly unique [and Canadian] coffee experience in China.

Funds are required immediately, as we hope to hold our Grand Opening in early March.

Rewards

Besides receiving our heartfelt thanks, backers can choose from a number of rewards, including coffee, merchandise, and coffee education.

Our rewards levels are named after specialty single-source coffees and Legacy's custom fresh-roasted coffee blends.
