Lolita Lucas: Transplant Fund

At the age of 45, Lolita "Lee Lee" was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. After many failed medical attempts (she is 51-year-old now), she is now in End-Stage Heart Failure. What does this mean? It means that she will not survive without a Heart Transplant. She has been placed at the top of the transplant list at Henry Ford Hospital, but because of the severity of her health, the transplant team needs to install an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), or she will not survive.
The LVAD is a Bridge-to-Transplant, which means it can help Lee Lee survive until a donor heart becomes available. This option is appropriate for people whose medical therapy has failed, and who are hospitalized with End-Stage Systolic Heart Failure. The device is also known as a "mechanical heart." She is too young to be in end-stage heart failure, but with technology and faith we believe that she will recover.
After her LVAD surgery, she will need round-the-clock care, which means her husband will need to take FMLA for at least two (2) months without pay. Also, she will need nursing care after the surgery as well, which is not covered by insurance. The family will be faced with an abundance of medical bills after she is released. Although insurance will thankfully pay for the transplant and LVAD surgeries, there are aspects of her care and recovery that will not be covered by insurance.
This is the reason for the Go Fund Me campaign. Lee Lee will need an abundance of care, and we do not want her to worry whether her medication or treatment will be covered when she is released. Additionally, after her transplant, every patient is not always acceptable to the new donor heart, so there will be many costs associated with monitoring her recuperation.
So, we are setting up this campaign with Go Fund Me so that Lolita can return to her vibrant life she once had as a wife, mother of three (3), and grandmother of three (3). Please, give what you can, and share this campaign link with as many people as you can. Every little bit counts! Everyone that knows, Lee Lee, also knows what an amazing woman she is.
