Cancer sucks.  And cancer especially sucks when it tries to mess with children.  On May 26th, 2014, it was discovered that there was a mass in sweet, five year old Lauren's brain.  The "good" news is that it is a grade 1 tumor, meaning it is the slowest growing of this type. It is not a tumor that spreads throughout the body. It is a tumor that stops growing on its own, we just don't know when it will stop. Unfortunately, the tumor is in an inoperable area.  Lauren has been set up on a weekly regimen of chemotherapy. She will have chemo once a week for the next year. Her port was placed on Wednesday, June 2nd and chemo started on Thursday, June 5th.  The goal of her chemo will be to shrink it to a point where it is no longer causing symptoms.
Lauren has been inspirational throughout this.  It's incredible what she and other children just like her can endure.  It is a definite perspective check for all of us.  We all need to remember to cherish our lives and each other.
We all know that medical bills add up quickly.  Lets rally behind Lauren and her family and take part of the financial burden off of them.  Lets show this little girl that she is brave and powerful and that we believe in her fierce spirit.
