Starting in January 2014, I will begin a year of service with a very exciting ministry and am asking you to consider how you may be able to support me in this work.
I will be serving with a Catholic Youth Ministry in Australia called NET Ministries (NET) which is a ministry directed towards high school youth, tertiary students and young working people. The ministry is expressed though retreats, workshops and leadership training seminars.
During the past eighteen years, NET has served many dioceses throughout Australia and New Zealand, positively impacting on the lives of some 400,000 young people. That is a lot of lives that have been challenged, changed and hopefully protected from some of the tragic experiences, of which young people are too often the victims.
One of the distinguishing features of a NET team is that is is made up of young (17-30 y.o) people. It is young Catholics who take up the challenge of presenting the Catholic faith to others in a way that is meaningful to them and helps them to see its relevance in their daily lives.
Young people today are desperately searching for answers.
Catholic youth need Good news. They need to hear it from their Church and they need to see its reality experienced and lived out in the lives of their peers. The Second Vatican Council states that 'young people ought to be the first apostles to the young' and what we hope to achieve through this ministry is a renewal in the faith for young people in Australia.
Following five weeks of training, the teams embark on ten months of ministry to the youth of Australia.
The NET ministry is characterized by a clear presentation of the Gospel message that challenges young people to place God first in their lives and develops concrete ways they can grow in their faith.
Often, the students we work with are severely hardened due to a lack of love, broken families, and drug or alcohol misuse. By working near the "front line" as we do, we continue to see God's action as He touches lives with His love.
I believe that our ministry to Catholic youth is extremely important, especially at this time in the history of the Church. Young people need to hear a clear proclamation of the Gospel. They need to know that God loves them and care about their lives. They need to know that the Church needs them and that they need the Church.
That is what I am committed to share. But I need your support! I seek your support in the form of intercessory prayers. I know I need people praying for me to give me the courage and strength necessary for this exciting ministry.
I invite you to support me financially. I am committed to raising USD$6800.00 prior to beginning my work with NET Ministries. While this amount does not cover the full expenditure during my time with NET (total cost is over 13,000) it is a very valuable investment in a better future for thousands of young people.
Each of my team mates will also be raising the same amount and this money will specifically be used to provide me with training for the year ahead.
NET does not receive any government funding. NET is able to charge modest fees for its services in schools, dioceses and particular churches.
In addition to whatever investment you can make in my work with NET, this vital work we carry out is supported by other individual donors and businesses. NET also raises modest funds from an annual dinner event and some other appeals from time to time but we cannot set out in confidence unless we have all our costs supported to a basic level.
I would welcome and appreciate any support you are able to give.
