Larry's Lifeline
Donation protected
This fund has been set up by the friends of Dr. Lawrence M. Slocki, 1971 graduate of J. Frank Dobie High School, 1975 graduate of Princeton University and 1979 graduate of Baylor School of Medicine. Larry met his wife, Patricia, when he was a student at Princeton. They have been blessed with 4 devoted children, all of which are grown and scattered all over the country. They recently learned that they will be grandparents, and they are beyond thrilled to be welcoming their first grandchild to their family in the summer.
An experienced Ob-Gyn physician, Larry has practiced in a variety of settings in the United States over the past 32 years. Denton and Baytown, Texas, Bangor, Maine, Batesville, Laurel and Picayune Mississippi, and Rock Springs, Wyoming are some of the places that the Slockis have called “home” during his long career. When asked, Larry was reluctant to guess the number of babies he has helped into this world, but a really conservative estimate would be well over 5,000!
For the past two years, Larry has been practicing in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He and Patti chose to move to this small Wyoming town for its fresh air and mountain views after living most of their lives in the South.
In early November, 2014, Larry was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Since that day, this good doctor has been in the fight of his life. He had to leave his position at the Sweetwater Medical Group due to his increasingly poor health. Patti’s position as a nurse at Lincare also ended abruptly, as she was unable to fulfill her job’s travel requirements due to the frequent absences required to drive Larry to oncologist appointments and to care for him following treatments. Unfortunately with both unemployed, and the added medical expenses, they have been forced to live from savings and retirement funds - not what they had planned for when they made the move to Wyoming. Their savings account is now nearly depleted, as they must travel weekly from Rock Springs, Wyoming, to the Huntsman Cancer Center, University of Utah, in Salt Lake City ( three hours one way), for chemotherapy treatments and surgeries. The sudden onset of Larry’s life threatening illness and their loss of income has been devastating, and has put Larry and Patti in a state of financial need they have never experienced before. They are unaccustomed to asking for help, and, quite honestly, they do not even know where to begin. To help alleviate the added stress that their loss of income has added to the equation, this fund has been created to free the Slockis from worrying about the cost of accessing the best possible medical care available to treat Larry’s cancer and keeping a roof over their head. This is your opportunity to help a dedicated, caring physician, father and husband who has fallen on desperate times in the blink of an eye.
We thank you for any monetary contribution you care to make to assist with Larry’s treatment and travel expenses.
