My Mother, Lynda Lagodney got sick about 2 months ago. She thought she had the flu, but her condition quickly deteriorated. After a little over a week later, she was in intensive care. Her kidneys had failed, and her liver was mostly destroyed.
She started dialysis, but didn’t tolerate it well. Her blood pressure would drop, she would go into Afib. After two weeks of unsuccessful dialysis, her doctors said there wasn’t anything more to try and recommended hospice. Her greatest desire was to be home with family and her beloved pets, and because of financial problems this was our only choice.  She arrived back home on March 15.
My brother, Brian, poured his heart into taking care of her, but he suffered chronic depression, anxiety and insomnia. He also had an opiate dependance, and was self medicating using my mother's pills. After a week of taking care Mom, Brian died from an accidental over-dose on her pain meds.
With support and sacrifice from friends,  my father, who has Parkinson’s, and I are caring for Mom. The medical bills are piling up and soon there will be 2 funerals to pay for. I am on leave from work for now, but need to get a plan together for Dad care while I’m gone ( I travel for my job and am gone for months at a time).
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
