I am advocading for Linda, a musician and artist, a disabled senior on low income, and my friend of 40 years.
Linda has been lied to, bullied and short-changed by a moving company. They have not provided an invoice or receipt, refunded $1,500 for her troubles as promised for their negligence and they refuse to acknowledge they "lost" several items, including Lady Star, her beloved garden statue.
This is Elder Abuse and we need your help, not just donations which are terrific and muchly needed but to help to get our story out.

The mover she hired via the Internet have treated her in such a despicable manner it brings tears to my eyes. It's a very long story so I'll try to highlight, but know there have been many other things said and done to make up this saga. And it continues to this day.
The moving company needs to be held accountable and we need to find Linda's beloved Lady Star statue, which is likely with the other things she is missing.
It was bad enough the mover missed SEVEN promised dates over two months with only bothering to call one time to say the truck broke down in Calgary. This turned out to be a outright lie! Each time she called to find out where her belongings were she was given one excuse after the other with a new promised date.
Another time she called she was told it was in Saskatoon. Linda said that's funny last time you told me it was in Calgary. A retraction then, but given everything that's happened, it just adds to the pile of baloney.
After the 7th time we waited most of the day for the mover to arrive and they didn't show up or call yet again, I said to Linda enough is enough, I have to help you. She was afraid to let me earlier or complain in case something happened to her belongings but gladly agreed to let me call the mover on her behalf.
When the mover finally did arrive on July 9, almost two months late, she was missing some very large items, all very difficult for her to replace on her minimum income. Things like her floor fans to keep the air circulating (a remote arrived), her vacuum with special air filter (attachments and manual arrived), and her outdoor table and heavy-duty umbrella stand (the chairs and umbrella arrived).
The worst of it was though, was her heavy concrete statue, her beloved Lady Star that she's had for years was missing even though she saw it being loaded on the truck, one of the last items to go. The former landlord, also a friend of Linda's, informed both me and the moving company nothing of Linda's was left behind. One of the moving guys said he remembered the statue but not it being picked up and he'd checked the storage. Probably didn't have to go far because it was being stored in a private residence house. But that's another story.
I discovered her belongings were stored by the moving company in someone's personal garage for over a month! They were shipped directly from there to BC via a sub-contracted moving company, and had been waiting all along in Richmond BC for payment, pick-up and delivery to Quadra Island by the moving company. So much for the "broken down truck so two weeks delay" in Calgary story.
The moving company now say the $1,500 is compensation enough and I was told "I'd rather go to court" rather than own up that Lady Star or any of the other missing items were stolen, to the tune of approximately $2,000. Almost impossible for Linda to replace on her income. How could they lose a 12' step-ladder but the other two arrived? Her patio table yet the chairs came? How dare they suggest Linda sold these items in a garage sale and wasn't telling the truth she saw them being loaded.
The moving company promised to send me a detailed invoice that I asked for because I checked the one Linda paid and the weight they charged her is 1,350 lbs more than on the sub-contracted mover's Bill of Lading (which was kindly provided to me by the sub-contractor), the moving company never did supply one but he told me maybe I could try and find it if I knew the date and time. Really?
The moving company told me the initial invoice was a mistake and the axel weight had been deducted, but everything was done over the phone and Linda has never received an updated invoice. A detailed invoice would show exactly what she was charged for. A Bill of Lading from when they weighed the truck after picking up at Linda's residence would be nice too.
I sent the list of missing items, and we didn't even count the large box of all her dry goods she packed and when she opened up was chock-full of filthy stinking mouse droppings with every bag and box plundered by mice... all her food that has to be replaced. I told her to take a picture, nobody would believe it.
This is a woman who has had to go to the Food Bank! Someone needs to tell the owner of that house where her stuff was stored they may have a possible mouse infestation.
The moving company promised the refund for the delays of $1,500 by July 31 and have not as yet paid up.
The thing is, the only thing which is important to Linda is finding her Lady Star statue.
In order to investigate and a possible court case against this so called professional moving company, I'm asking, on Linda's behalf, and as her Power of Attorney, for your help to bring home Lady Star. Additional funding will go towards replacing the other items Linda is missing, there's a list on our Facebook Page.
If per our fortunate chance this campaign exceeds our lawyer/replacement costs, all funding will go directly to Linda to do as she sees fit.
Goodness knows a very low-income senior with a disability can use a little extra in her pocket. Even if it's just enough to pay off the money to the moving company that would be a thrill for Linda I am certain.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, no one deserves to be treated as Linda has by a professional moving company, with total disregard and disrespect... even though they know she is a disabled senior on low income.

And did I mention they were also a day late in picking up on May 1 and never bothered to call her, she had to call and rebook for the next day. She was promised $150.00 for this delay but they refunded her $139.00.
Just. Despicable. This is only part of the story.
