Lucy the Brinkley GSD

Donation protected
We have decided to go with Lucy for her name. Lucy is a white GSD who was in healthy condition when she was taken to the Brinkley shelter for flood evacuation by her owner, an ex-police chief, due to the June floods. Lucy has been in the shelter since the June floods. Last week the owner signed the surrender form, turning ownership over to the city of Brinkley AR. Lucy 's condition, noticed by a potential adopter, had deteriorated so much that Mayor Billy Hankins was alerted and he gave the ACO permission to take her to the vet. She was diagnosed with a severe hookworm infestation and coccidia. Medications were prescribed and Lucy was transported back to the shelter. Shelter volunteers realized they needed to find a rescue to pull her immediately because of her condition. She was pulled by an Arkansas rescue who picked her up today (10/17/2014). She was immediately taken to Pleasant Valley Animal Clinic in Little Rock, AR. Initially, we requested a bath and boarding for the day to give us time to set up a foster. We also requested a heart worm test and found that she is heart worm positive. She was dropped off and we had plans to pick her up before closing but the vet called us and told us that he did not want to release her until at least Monday due to her severe condition. He stated that she is dehydrated. Her gums are bruised and pale and she could not maintain her body temperature and was near death. The vet recommended that she stay there a few more days next week if possible because she is very weak. She falls over when walking. She has no muscle mass. She weighs 41.2 pounds and should weigh 80 pounds or more. Without vaccines, she is susceptible to more diseases. So being in boarding with great vet care is the best possible place for her now. We need to raise the money for her spay and vaccines, heart worm treatment, tick disease tests, boarding and possible blood work. We came to the goal amount by estimating that her spay and vaccines and tick tests will run about 200.00. We are estimating 400.00 for heart worm treatment, 250.00 for a dental, and the rest for boarding and possible blood tests. If you can help by making a small donation, it will be greatly appreciated. All funds for this campaign will be applied directly to Lucy ' s recovery. We want to make her whole again. No donation is too small. Thank you.
