Laura Fellows is single mother and self-employed chiropractor. Although the flexibility of being your own boss has great benefit for her to be there for her son, it has its disadvantages. The same self-reliance that makes her an excellent mom leaves her vulnerable to catastrophe.

Laura was recently involved in a motorcycle accident and had to have emergency surgery the next day to rebuild her tibia. Surgery went well, and the doctors expected her to make a full recovery.

However, with the rod, screws and pins in her leg required to help it heal, she will be out of work for up to 12 weeks.

Unable to work, she is facing a bleak short-term outlook. She has exhausted her savings and has no other sources of income. She doesn’t receive child support or alimony.
