Emergency Pet Transport

Following the destruction from Hurricane Harvey and as Florida braces for Hurricane Irma, the League for Animal Welfare in Batavia, Ohio has been researching how we can best help our rescue friends prepare for what could be another devastating impact.  We've learned that the biggest help we can give Florida shelters and rescues is SPACE.  By creating space, we give those organizations the chance to house animals displaced, deserted or lost in the wake of Irma, and enable reunions where possible in the weeks to come.

As a result, we are sending an emergency transport team to Florida on Thursday, September 7.  We will provide rescue for dogs and cats from four Florida agencies (Gainesville Pet Rescue , Haile’s Angels Pet Rescue , Helping Hands Pet Rescue and Alachua Humane Society), thereby creating the space they need before Irma makes landfall.

We will also be partnering with our local community to provide temporary housing for up to 14 dogs and 10 cats.  To accomplish this effort, we estimate the transport, intake and care of these animals to cost up to $6,000.  Because we will be continuing our local rescue efforts and daily shelter operations, we are asking for donations to cover the costs associated with helping these homeless animals.  Remember, helping these animals has a double-impact:  they find a forever home and displaced animals will be reunited with their families after Irma's impact.

ANY AMOUNT WILL HELP!  Thank you so much for whatever you can afford to donate.
