Mrs. Maria (Kyria Maria) is an elderly Greek lady currently residing in a nursing home. She was living at an apartment in Maryland but mounting medical bills caused the government to put a lien on her apartment, putting a large financial burden on her family.
Kyria Maria is a Greek lady from Istanbul- a member of the once-thriving Greek community there. She came to the DC area in 1968 with her husband. They quickly became active members of their local Church. Together they adapted to life here and had a son and worked hard to educate him. Kyria Maria was an active member of the Hellenic Society of Constantinopolitans, and is very proud to share stories about life in Istanbul (Konstantinoupoli) and recipes from "Poli".
The years have taken a toll on Kyria Maria and her health has deteriorated. Mounting medical bills have put a strain on her son and his wife.
By August 31st, her family needs to pay the medical expenses that have accumulated which total $3,900.
There are additional ongoing expenses to cover her stay at the nursing home as well as her daily provisions, none of which is covered by Medicaid.
We are launching this GoFundMe to assist her, and her family, with the costs of medical bills and the money raised will also help the family with everyday expenses.
