My Wife Kathleen and I are Grandparents of an adorable two year old little blessing named Chloe. I had just installed a new car seat since she was starting to get too big for the one we had and drove to Valley Park Fire District Station 2 so it could be checked that it was properly installed. I forgot that since it was a Saturday it wasn’t normal “business hours” and my Wife and I started to leave, not wanting to disturb the crew. As we were getting into our vehicle, the door at the top of a long flight of outside stairs opened and there was a thin young man dressed in sweats who cheerfully asked if he could help us. We told him about the car seat and he said still cheerfully “I’m not on duty, but sure I’ll check it!”. He gingerly came down the stairs in obvious pain. As we walked to our car I asked “are you okay?” He told us that he recently had colon cancer surgery and just finished going through six weeks of chemo treatments. Shocked how this young man, first was going through a cancer treatment and second, how he was bending over pulling and tugging in obvious discomfort on our car seat, we asked more questions.  The surgery he said went really well, that part of colon and his tail bone were removed, that this was his first time out and about and wanted to visit his crew, hoped to be back to work in about a month, and then another six weeks of chemo later this year. All this while still having that cheerful smile on his face! My Wife and I told him that you and your family are in our prayers and he replied a sincerely grateful “thank you!”.  We left to pick up our precious Granddaughter knowing that she will be safe in our new car seat. As we drove the thirty-five minutes to our Daughter and Son-In-Law’s house, my Wife and I barely spoke two words to each other but were thinking the same thing: just as we are blessed with our Granddaughter and in many other ways, we need to spread those blessings to this young man and his family! Thus this campaign!!

Please donate big or small to Valley Park Firefighter Kyle Wilken and his family (he has a Wife and young Daughter) to help pay for their mounting medical bills and living expenses while he is off work.  All donations go directly into a bank account set up for him by Valley Park Professional Firefighters. If you can’t donate, that’s okay too, but please pray for Kyle and his family, all First Responders, and those they help:

Prayer: "Dear Lord, be with those in trouble and needing emergency help at this moment. Help the safety personnel who respond to make the right decisions and please keep them safe. Amen."
